Description: Hurricane Helene made landfall along the Florida Gulf Coast in September 2024, and later impacted Western North Carolina with historic flooding, landslides, and hurricane-force winds. More than 100 deaths in the region were attributed to the storm’s direct impacts, 13% of those in two rural counties that also experienced more than 30 inches of rain. In partnership with a local non-profit organization, we conducted key informant interviews and a CASPER to assess community perspectives and provide data to long-term recovery and resilience committees.
