About the event
Flood risk communication in communities with diverse and multilingual populations can be challenging. With the majority of national-scale resources in the United States only available in English, It can be hard to reach non-English speaking audiences. This Summer, ASFPM launched a Spanish translation of its website, ReduceFloodRisk.org. Launched in 2022, ReduceFloodRisk.org helps property owners, particularly those in flood-prone areas, understand their flood risk and the most effective flood mitigation strategies for their particular property.
This webinar will feature the updated website and the California Department of Water Resources’ Flood Risk Notification Program. Lessons learned from coordinating with the Latino population in California will be discussed, with an emphasis on addressing the cultural and language differences.
This webinar is co-hosted by the International Committee, Risk Communications Committee, and the Social Justice Task Force of ASFPM.
Presenters:
-Silvia Reynoso, Water Resources Engineer, Floodplain Management Branch, California Department of Water Resources
